“Seville. Illuminated Shadow” is an exhibition for Madrid Design Festival located at the Centro Cultural de la Villa in Madrid. Curated by Macarena Navarro Reverter with the collaboration of Nieves de la Calle Porta, the exhibition showcases the most relevant examples of sevillian handcraft and contemporary design. STUDIO.NOJU has been in charge of the exhibition´s design with a proposal that invites the viewer to rediscover the city´s creative panorama.
The exhibition´s theme comes from the new branding for the city “Seville, very famous, very unknown”. A series of triptychs show us the well known handcrafts in a decontextualized way as abstract installations that vindicate the contemporaneity of Sevillian know-how. With the shadow as the protagonist, these art installatiomns give way to spaces where traditional craftsmanship intersects with contemporary design.
The yellow light, that belongs to the Sevillian imaginary, is expressed with a video installation in the form of an artificial sun that illuminates the room. A portal gives closure to the exhibition in the form of an arch of light reminiscent of the atmospheric light of the world-famous “Feria de Abril”.
